ACM-W supports, celebrates, and advocates internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field, providing a wide range of programs and services to ACM members and working in the larger community to advance the contributions of technical women.
We worked with local middle school children and helped them learn robotics using the LEGO MindStorms
We were visited by a Google Engineer,Olivia DeRosa and mentored by her personally
We had a movie screening of Steve Jobs and attended a 24 hour Hackathon for ASRC Federal
In the future, ACM-W will have awesome CS related fieldtrips
We started working on making ACMW come to life in the Summer of 2016. With the help of Dr. Jennifer Kay and Professor Chia Chien, we had our first meeting on campus with interested students and faculty. It was decided then that we needed to get working on a Student Seed Fund offered by NCWIT for new ACMW chapters. The application for this fund was completed and submitted. We were selected and received an NCWIT Student Seed Fund award in August 2016. Since that time, we have also applied for and received a Google igniteCS award to make a difference in our local community with CS mentorship. Our chapter is officially affiliated with ACMW and we have began the process of becoming chartered at Rowan.
We make an impact with our outreach programs. Backed by funding from Google IgniteCS and NCWIT, our robotics program is growing in numbers.
