Mobile application programming can provide an authentic and engaging hook into Computer Science. The MIT App Inventor is a web based visual programming environment that enables students with no programming background to build apps for Android mobile devices. Swift is an easy to learn programming language that is used to build apps for iOS mobile devices. RAMP offers summer workshops for high school and middle school students and teachers. The participants will use App Inventor and the Swift programming languages to build computer games that run on Android and iOS devices and learn basic Computer Science Principles. The hope is that this will plant the seed to entice more students to pursue a career in CS.
The Rowan Academy of Mobile Programming (RAMP) provides a learning environment for k-12 students to experience a taste of Computer Science. RAMP offers workshops specialized in the
development of mobile applications with the use of the MIT App Inventor and the Swift programming language. The MIT App Inventor is a visual programming tool aimed educate and enable students, who have no prior
programming experience, to create Android mobile applications. Swift is an easy to learn programming language that is used to build apps for iOS mobile devices.
